Born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana, Jonas Etienne (affectionately known as Joey) carries the rhythm of his hometown in every step. A proud graduate of Opelousas High School, Southern University and A&M College, and Louisiana State University, Joey’s roots run deep in Louisiana soil — where culture, music, and movement intertwine.

He began dancing almost as soon as he could walk, growing up in what he fondly calls a “dancing family.” From front porches to dance halls, the beat of zydeco became his language. As the genre evolved, so did Joey’s style — borrowing threads from every dance, weaving them into something entirely his own: smooth, soulful, and unmistakably Joey.

Over the years, his passion led him from friendly “hole-in-the-wall” competitions to the bright lights of adult zydeco stages, where his energy and grace drew attention and admiration. After countless requests, Joey transformed his lifelong love into a profession, beginning to teach zydeco dance about two years ago. His classes reflect not just the steps of a dance, but the heartbeat of a culture — one that celebrates community, movement, and joy.

Beyond the dance floor, Joey finds balance in life’s simple pleasures: traveling to new places, swimming, running, and savoring good food. He carries with him a quiet wisdom — a guiding quote that speaks to his nature:

“The clearest conscience makes the softest pillow.”

To watch Joey dance is to see Louisiana itself in motion — rhythmic, radiant, and deeply rooted in soul.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Arthur Corbin has spent more than 19 years inspiring others through the art of dance. As a dedicated Dance Teacher and Choreographer, Arthur has taught and performed across the United States, leaving his mark in places such as Georgia, Oregon, Pennsylvania, California, and many more. His journey has been fueled by an unwavering love for Zydeco — a rhythm, culture, and spirit that captured his heart at an early age.

Arthur’s connection to Zydeco runs deeper than just movement; it’s a reflection of his roots, his joy, and his mission in life. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of accordions, washboards, and the infectious beats of Louisiana Creole and Cajun culture, he developed a lifelong passion for the music and the community it brings together. That passion grew into a purpose: to share Zydeco with the world and ensure its traditions and energy continue to thrive for generations to come.

Throughout his career, Arthur has taught countless students of all ages and backgrounds. His teaching style blends technical precision with a heartfelt appreciation for culture and expression. Whether he’s instructing beginners learning their first Zydeco steps or advanced dancers perfecting their style, Arthur’s classes are known for their welcoming atmosphere, high energy, and deep sense of community.

He believes dance is more than movement — it’s therapy for the soul. It’s a universal language that connects people, breaks barriers, and brings joy no matter where you’re from. Arthur’s philosophy centers on the idea that Zydeco dancing isn’t just about the steps; it’s about feeling the rhythm, embracing the culture, and sharing that passion with others.

Over the years, Arthur has achieved numerous milestones through his dedication to Zydeco, including teaching workshops, choreographing performances, collaborating with musicians, and helping expand Zydeco’s reach to new audiences across the country. Yet, despite his accomplishments, he remains humble and hungry for more. “As long as I have breath in my body,” he says, “I will always represent for Zydeco dancing.”

Arthur Corbin’s vision is simple but powerful — to preserve, promote, and celebrate Zydeco as a living, evolving art form. Through his teaching, choreography, and cultural outreach, he continues to build bridges between communities and generations, ensuring that the rhythm of Zydeco never fades but grows stronger with every step, every beat, and every dancer who joins the movement.
